I have always enjoyed playing with aperture in my photographs. It's very interesting to create an artsy shot including a blurred background, and it just adds a lot more to the photo. I really love shooting with my macro lens which makes having a small depth of field very easy to achieve. I had a harder time finding a shot with a large depth of field but I think I am happy with my outcome.

Photography Assignment:: Aperture

These are all really well done! I especially like the last two. Such crisp focus!
You asked about manual focus. I don't use it very often. I find that my eye isn't very reliable (getting old?). I use the spot focus feature though. It allows one point in my lens to focus, then I halfway depress the shutter to lock the focus and re-frame the shot before taking the pic. That ends up working much better for me.
